White Giant

Hello out there,

Getting up early in the morning can be quite dreadful, especially if you are on vacation. But from time to time you get rewarded with a photo like this one of the Cathedral Santa Maria Nascente right in the center of Milan.

Actually, it was more like a short sightseeing trip than an extended vacation I took one weekend to Italy’s fashion capital. Of course, seeing the cathedral and taking a nice shot of it was one of my major highlights. But during the sunset on the first day, I had to admit that it would be impossible to shot it the way I imagined. There were just too many people on the square in front of it. So I decided to come back early the next morning.

Luckily then the square was technically empty compared to the evening before. There were just some people heading to work and street cleaners restoring the medieval splendor of the square, which was perfectly fitting into the frame of a typical Italian morning. Now I needed to find a composition to capture the scenery. Since there was not only the cathedral located right on the square but also the entrance of the equally famous Galleria Vittorio Emanuele II, I wanted to have both of them in the picture. So I walked into one of the corners, on to the opposite side of the square and found the perfect view. As I pressed the shutter button and captured this photo, I was so glad that I got up early.
