Two Lane
Hello out there,
The motor scooter is definitely the most used vehicle for transportation in South East Asia. Everywhere you go, you will be surrounded by them. So for example also in Laos religious center, Luang Prabang, where this photo was taken.
After arriving late the previous night, I decided in the morning to just follow my nose and take a walk around town. But first I looked for a nice café to have breakfast, which I found just over the Nam Khan river. From here I had a perfect view of the hustle and bustle on one of the typical Lao bamboo bridge underneath the café. During the dry season, most of the locals use these temporarily bridges to cross the river, instead of the permanent steal bridge upstream. The reason, therefore, I found out later.
After I finished breakfast, I walked across the bamboo bridge to a part of the city, where not many tourists go to. It is by far not as nice as the historic center of Luang Prabang, but here, where the locals live and go shopping, the Lao culture is much more authentic. After walking through a couple of narrow alleys, I arrived on the main street and was suddenly surrounded by hundreds of motor scooters. Most of them were heading into the city center over the before mentioned bridge.
As I wanted to cross it, I realized, why so many people used the bamboo bridges. One motor scooter after another was getting on and off the bridge in front of me, making a crossing by foot not the safest thing to do. Of course, I saw the opportunity to capture this scene in a photograph and waited for a gap in the traffic. After a couple of minutes an opportunity opened up and I decided to use it. I already prepared my camera for the shot, so I just had to walk to the middle of the bridge, to get the nice symmetrical look, and press the shutter.
