Temple Guard

Hello out there,

When I visited Laos on my trip through Southeast Asia, I wasn't quite sure what to expect. It is simply the case, that Laos is not present in the media at all in Europe and the country is also not home to any famous sights.

So while I was crossing the Mekong River and simultaneously the border in the northeast of Thailand, to enter Laos, I therefore felt a bit like on a blind date. Especially, since it was late in the evening and the sun had already set, as I arrived in the countries capital Vientiane.

Of course, I was very excited the next morning to discover the city and my first destination was the Haw Phra Kaew, which is supposed to be one of the most beautiful temples in Laos. Right away I was fascinated by its modest, but still very beautiful appearance. Since not everything was coated in gold, it seemed much more elegant than most other temples I had seen on my trip. A great start into my Laos experience.

Another detail, which instantly drew my attention, were the majestic and finely crafted Buddha status which surrounded the temple. As I was discovering the site, I found one of them, that was wonderfully lit by the morning sun and definitely worth capturing in a photograph. To covey the majestic impression I had of the statures, I decided to get down low and face the camera upwards. Then I just pressed the shutter.
