Discover the stories behind my photographs, captured around the world in magnificent landscapes and foreign cultures

Lonesome Prowler

Hello out there,

One thing I'm always quite surprised about when traveling the world is the number of stray dogs crossing your way. No matter if you are in a small town in the South American jungle, at a beautiful beach in the Caribbean or a historic site in Iran, they are everywhere. Unfortunately, did I not only make positive experiences, since many of them are quite aggressive. Especially at places where they are not used to foreigners, they like to block your way and defend their territory. Luckily did I make the experience, that local people usually try to help and know how to deal with them.

But more than often did I also made the experience, that stray dogs are not aggressive and just walk down a street without barking at someone. Like this fellow, which crossed my way in Sri Lanka, while I was discovering a botanical garden in the city of Kandy.

I just was about to capture this wonderful avenue, with the accurately planted palm trees on either, side in a photo, as this lonesome dog entered the scene. First I wanted to wait until he had passed by, but suddenly I realized that he would be a perfect fit for my photo. So as he was walking in between two trees and the sunlight hit him, I just pressed the shutter.
