Black Forest

Hello out there,

While I was staying in Vancouver for a couple of weeks, I was looking forward to a skiing trip, I had planned at the end of my visit to this fabulous western Canadian metropolis. Since it takes just two hours with the bus from downtown Vancouver to the lovely town of Whistler within the Rocky Mountains, I had brought everything along to spend some time on the slopes.

Unfortunately, the weather was not that good and the first day turned out to be a fight with a tough Canadian snow storm. It was so cold, that I did not pull out the camera once since I was fearing my fingers would freeze. But honestly, there was not much to photograph anyway, besides a white wall of horizontally flying snowflakes.

The weather turned out to be better on the second day. Therefore I was standing at the ski lift as soon as they opened. A nice side effect was, that I had the slopes more or less to myself for about the first hour of the day. Of course, I wanted to use this opportunity to take some photos, before the mountains would get too crowded.

Soon I spotted an interesting view along the mountain range with several fir trees in the foreground. I imagined that the dark trees and the clouds in the background would suit perfectly for a monochromatic photograph. But as I pulled my camera up to the eye, I realized, that something is missing. The scene still needed a focal point.

Just seconds later, a darkly clothed skier came along the slope, wonderfully fitting in my scene. With camera already being set up, I just had to press the shutter.
