Heavenly Ceiling
Hello out there,
Today's photo has been taken inside of the Sheikh Lotfollah Mosque in Isfahan. Its beauty definitely stands out from the dozens of mosques I had seen during my trip through Iran. When you walk inside, you can’t avoid tilting your head back and to stare up, at the ceiling. The marvelous artwork created by an uncountable number of golden and blue tiles is astonishing. Especially if the light comes through the windows, you get the feeling as if the golden ones in the center are glowing like an interior sun.
It is unbelievably, that in two years this monument will already celebrate its 400th year of completion. The locals, by the way, call it the Woman Mosque, since it was mainly built for the female members of the Sheikh family, which could enter it without disguising through a tunnel from the nearby palace.
To capture a memory of this unique place, I first tried to shoot a picture straight up right from its center. But honestly, I was not satisfied with my first shot as the picture did not convey the atmosphere of the spaciousness. Therefore I moved my camera more and more from the center out and squeezed myself into one of the corners and from I was able to capture the photo how I imagined it.
