Greatly Elevated

Hello out there,

Wet and cold weather is something I really don't like. I usually get frustrated pretty quick and cannot enjoy the place I'm in.

This also happened to me during a stay in Whistler. A place I always wanted to go to, after I had closely followed the Olympic Games in 2010. But the weather during my first two days was just awful. Heave snowfall was more or less limiting the visibility to zero. Even on the third day, the forecast did not leave much room for optimism, so I thought about leaving the camera equipment in the hotel. But luckily I didn't.

During noontime, the snowfall suddenly stopped and just about thirty minutes later the clouds started to open up and even some sun found its way through. It was unbelievable. Now I needed to find the proper scenery to work with the improved conditions. I recalled just coming by an aisle in the forest, that would open the view perfectly to the mountains on the opposite side of the valley.

So I skied down the slope, took the chairlift back up and then headed down again to the spot. Unfortunately, the sun was gone as I arrived, but there were so many gaps in the clouds that I was quite sure to get another chance soon. And just a couple minutes later the sun came through again and I took this photo. Within just half an hour my mood made a U-turn and I had an awesome day from that moment on.
