Discover the stories behind my photographs, captured around the world in magnificent landscapes and foreign cultures

Gothic Sunset

Hello out there,

Every once and a while, I like to take a day trip across the border into France. From where I live, it is just a two-hour ride, to several French towns and cities, that are definitely worth to discover. Even though they are located just behind the border, it always fascinates me, how different the lifestyle of the locals is and that you get this feeling of visiting a place far away.

One city, I especially like a lot, is Metz. Surprisingly, it is not very well known to people where I live, but compared to the much more popular Strasbourg and Colmar, it also has to offer a very nice city center. You can several find historic buildings and pretty streets, with impressive city mansions, as well as the Mosel river, which goes right through the city.

One building, that you will definitely not miss if you are visiting Metz is the cathedral. It overtops most of the city and offers a perfect point for orientation. On our last visit, we decided to have dinner right next to it, before we head back home. As we walked towards the main entrance, the sun was just about to set behind us, wonderfully illuminating its facade. Of course, this was a scene to be captured on a photo. So pulled out my camera, decided to focus just on the illuminated part of the facade and just pressed the shutter.
