Garden Crossing

Hello out there,

One stop on your way from Cape Town to Durban along the Garden Route was the Tsitsikamma National Park. It was a unanimous decision to put the park on our itinerary since the pictures we saw of it in advance convinced everybody. So we were looking forward to this highlight on our trip and rented a farmhouse right next to the park.

Our accommodation turned out to be a renovated barn, with no electricity or heating. We did not mind missing the latter during the South African summer, but to live for three days, and especially nights, without electricity was quite an experience. But we made it work and looking back, we actually enjoyed it.

Sadly, however, we had to find out, that it was not possible to enter the national park from where we were staying and instead had to drive quite a long detour, to enter it. This was pretty disappointing since were therefore lost a lot of time.

On our way to the main entrance of the park, we then crossed the Storms River on a big concrete bridge, from where we spotted a nice rest area, with some restaurants along the canyon wall. We decided to keep it in mind for dinner and first head into the park.

Exhausted from a whole day of hiking through the truly amazing Tsitsikamma National Park, we were pretty happy, to know, where to go to for dinner. The sun was just about to set, as we returned to the rest area next to the bridge and headed first to a viewing platform, to take a look into the canyon, before it would be too dark. But instead of looking down, the bridge we had crossed in the morning instantly drew my attention. It was so wonderfully lit by the setting sun, that I had to get my camera out and just press the shutter.
