Discover the stories behind my photographs, captured around the world in magnificent landscapes and foreign cultures

Fortified Valley

Hello out there,

To discover the world and take great photos, sometimes you don’t have to travel far. This view, for example, I captured more or less just around the corner.

The small town you can see right underneath this viewpoint is called Bad Münster in the southwest of Germany, which is very famous for its curative saline. But it also has to offer history, in form of two castles located on top of either side of the Nahe river, giving you a great view of over the area. So since the weather was nice and I had nothing planned for the evening, I spontaneously decided to swing by and take some photos during the approaching sunset.

But due to the fact, that the parking lots are located on the opposite side of the river, it takes some time to cross it, because the bridge is further up river. Therefore I had to hurry, to get to the higher caste, called Rheingrafenstein, in time for the setting sun. When I arrived, I was all sweaty, but luckily the sun was still above the horizon and had enough time left, to look for the perfect view to capture.

Instinctively I climbed the wall, facing the direction of the setting sun. The view was just perfect, with the second castle above the town and the river. So I got out my camera and made it ready to capture the scene. To covey were I was located, I decided to include parts of the castle I was at, in the angle of view. Then, as the sun was just above the horizon, I pressed the shutter.
