Appropriate Ride

Hello out there,

Venice is one of my most favorite cities in the world. Part of the reason is, that I really enjoy walking through the streets, without having cars all around me. Abandoning motorized vehicles from a place gives it a much more relaxed and timeless feeling. Therefore I also enjoyed discovering the Naqsch-e Dschahan Square in Isfahan.

The cities central square used to be open for traffic, but due to preservation reasons, they banned it a couple years ago. This makes it an oasis within one of Iran’s busiest cities, because around the square streets are still clogged up by cars. So I tried to stop by as often as possible, to see what is going on and how the locals use the square. After sunset, for example, many people come here to relax and have a typical Iranian picnic with their family. In the early morning, the opposite is the case, since many people come here for jogging and gymnastics.

During the day, the square is just a mix of bazaar and tourist attraction. Many stores are located in the buildings surrounding it and draw local people to shop for their daily needs. I was just walking around with the camera in my hand and looked for something interesting to capture. As I saw horse-drawn carriage come closer, I imagined, that this would be a nice scene to photograph. So I dialed in the settings and lifted the camera up to my eye and just at the moment the horse raised its head, I pressed the shutter.
