Lighted Plateau

Hello out there,

The play of colors in the alps can be fascinating to watch. Usually, it is the burning fire in the sky and on the mountains, which you can see some days early in the morning at sunrise or in the evening during sunset. But this time it happened right in the middle of the day, that the clouds and the sun performed a fascinating light show.

When we started in the morning to hike the Thaneller peak near Berwang in the northwest of Austria the weather actually looked fabulous. But as soon as we made it about halfway up, clouds showed up and covered the sky including the sun. Since this is not quite uncommon for the alps and it did not look like an upcoming thunderstorm, we kept on going. But the light of the sun was more and more blocked by the clouds so that it almost seemed like we were hiking during dusk.

About an hour later, as we just stopped for short rest, the clouds started to open up a bit and the show began. Light rays, falling through the gaps, suddenly appeared around us and magically illuminated different parts of the landscape, as the clouds moved around in the wind. Of course, this was a scene to be captured and so I got out my camera. After I made it ready to shoot, I started waiting for the perfect moment to be captured, since the scenery changed with every wind blow. Then suddenly, as a high valley not too far away was completely lit by a gap in the clouds, the moment was here and I just had to press the shutter.
