Leaving Trails
Hello out there,
The feeling of skiing over freshly fallen powder snow is just magical. Usually, I try to get off to the mountains at least once each winter to satisfy this feeling. In the past years, I discovered the French Alps to be the perfect place for that. Even though you can never count on the weather in the mountains, it seems to me, that the likelihood for a lot of snow and pleasant weather is here much higher than in other parts of the alps.
So was the weather splendor, like you can see, the day I took this photograph near the French city of Les Menuires. Overnight a heavy snowfall brought flawless skiing conditions, therefore I decided to take the camera with me. Already on the first lift ride, I was taken away by the view over freshly powdered trees shimmering in the morning sun. Right away I started looking for some nice scenes to photograph before the sun would start to melt away the snow.
It might have been on the third or fourth run down, that I discovered a peak a bit off the slope, which was still covered in untouched snow. As I got out my camera to capture it, I saw a skier making his way over to the peak. Right away I realized, that he would perfectly complement the scene and provide a size comparison. So I set up my camera and waited for the skier to come closer to the peak. As he was in a perfect position, and even stopped for a moment, I pressed the shutter.
