Dissolving Reflection

Hello out there,

According to some statistics, Hamburg has more bridges than Venice. If you have only been to Venice and not to Hamburg so far, this is hard to imagine. But after spending a couple of days in the northern German city, I can definitely confirm it. Even though I did not count all of them,  I was quite impressed by the number of waterways going right through the city center.

Especially the restored Hafencity, a district right along the Elbe river, where all the former warehouses and piers are located is traversed by several canals. This, of course, makes it a great location to take pictures. Unfortunately, the weather did not quite play along and it was not very comfortable to walk around on this cold and rainy autumn afternoon. But it definitely paid off.

As I was walking across one of the bridges, I looked to the side and right down this urban canyon. A perfect scene, with the symmetric row of warehouses in either side and the two iron bridges framing a neat looking house at the top of an island. But as I wanted to get my camera out of the bag and capture it, I realized that the overcast sky did not quite fit the scene and therefore decided to come back later. This turned out to be a great idea because shortly after sunset the sky started to open up and the lights on the buildings were turned on. This perfectly completed the scene and therefore I just had to get my camera out of the bag and pressed the shutter.
