High Offering
Hello out there,
The day I arrived in Sri Lanka was very long and exhausting, but also impressive and gave a good foretaste of what to expect in the next couple of weeks.
Since my flight into Colombo, the countries capital arrived in the middle of the night, I decided not to check into a hotel and instead find directly a bus to Anuradhapura in the north of the island state. I thought, that during the six-hour ride, I would have more than enough time to catch some sleep. But the bus was so overcrowded, that I could only dream of having a nap and instead observed, what was going on around me.
It was already midday, as I arrived in Anuradhapura and so I just brought my stuff into the hotel and directly headed on to discover the city. After sitting for about twenty four hours in a plane and on a bus, I definitely needed to move a bit, even though I was pretty tired. So I went to the historic district of the city, where several old temple complexes waited to be explored.
As the sun already started to set, I came by the central Ruwanwelisaya stupa, where a religious ceremony was going on. I was so fascinated by the masses of people giving offerings or saying a prayer while surrounding the stupa, that I sat down in the back and curiously looked at them. At one point, I saw a little girl making an attempt to climb up the stupa, to put some flowers on a ledge. Since I had the camera already laying in my lab, I wanted to give it a try and capture the scene. Knowing that the moment would pass any second, I lifted up the camera and just pressed the shutter.
