Discover the stories behind my photographs, captured around the world in magnificent landscapes and foreign cultures

Cape Living

Hello out there,

Today is the first time I have an interior shot to share with you here on my blog. Even though I’m drawn to capturing the magnificence of nature and the beauty of the urban landscape, I wanted to capture the unique furnishing of this cozy South African cottage in a photo.

One of the trips everybody has to make when visiting Cape Town is a drive through the Winelands, which are just about an hour away from the city. As the primary destination for our day in the Winelands, we choose Franschhoek. A small town with just way too many wineries, to visit them all. So we decided to take a tram and bus service, that takes you to a selection of them. The last stop of the round trip was the Grand Province Winery, where this photo was taken.

While there were several cottages surrounding the very beautiful courtyard, I instantly headed to the one, which seemed to be the oldest and there foremost interesting. After capturing a photo of it from the outside I got closer and saw that the door not completely closed. So I took the opportunity and stepped inside. Right from the doorway, I had the same view, as you can see now in the photo.

Initially, the pleasing symmetric alignment was the main reason for me to take the shot, but then I started to pay more attention to the details. Especially the unique chandelier and the rustic beams made capturing this photo even more worthwhile. So I set up my camera in the doorway and just pressed the shutter.
