Discover the stories behind my photographs, captured around the world in magnificent landscapes and foreign cultures

Among Grapevines

Hello out there,

Coming home is for me an essential part of traveling. Especially, if I have been abroad a long time, visited a country far away or spend some time among a very different culture, I always look forward to return to my hometown. But it is not the case, that I do not enjoy the foreign environment or get homesick, it is rather the joyful anticipation to see friends and family again, as well as a familiar surrounding.

So is there one place I usually go right away, when I return to Germany. Halfway up a hill behind our house in Gau-Weinheim sits a beautiful chapel, which not only fits wonderfully into the surrounding vineyards but also has to offer an incredible view over the area. To walk up here after a long and usually exhausting journey feels very comfortable.

Just like one time, when I came home in the late afternoon of a beautiful summer day and needed to move a bit, after sitting for several hours. Therefore did I decided to hike up to the chapel the same day and since the weather conditions looked perfect for a very nice sunset, did I bring my camera along.

And just as I arrived, the golden light of the setting sun started to wonderfully illuminate the bell tower of the chapel. Even though I had been here a couple of times already during sunset, did I enjoy it a lot and found it very unique.

Well, luckily did I bring my camera along to capture this moment. Instantly I had the idea to include the vines surrounding the chapel in my photo and therefore positioned myself among them with the illumated valley in the background. Then I just had to press the shutter.
